The SEO superhero’s utility belt: are you missing these essential tools?

Enterprise SEO is all about scale.

To effectively manage your enterprise website and address various SEO issues, it’s essential to equip yourself with a range of appropriate tools.

With that in mind, we’ve compiled our top 4 application types which will set you up for success at scale. How many are you using?

Grab a cloud-based crawler

With so many URLs to manage, sometimes a desktop crawler just isn’t enough.

When you’re dealing with limited computer memory, not only are crawls at risk of grinding to a halt, but it can become almost impossible to export reports or work with data at scale.

In such situations, a cloud-based crawler often becomes the best option.

Cloud based crawling affords you all the same capabilities as your standard desktop crawling software, but it can also investigate status codes, meta data, page rendering and more. Some even go as far as to offer a complete technical SEO management suite.

Step up your keyword research

Keyword research has evolved beyond just identifying the short and long tail variations. Now, especially for enterprise sites, more attention needs to be paid to both keyword intent and to potential Search Engine Results Page (SERP) features.

Luckily SEMrush’s keyword tool does just that, with helpful tags detailing which SERP features those keywords trigger, and the likely search intent behind them. Answer The Public is another great tool for uncovering Question-Answer keywords that you can use to enhance your content (and rank with new and expanded SERP features).

New AI based keyword tools are also able to do Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) at scale, allowing you to quickly gather the related keywords you’ll need to mention on a page-by-page basis.

Get a more versatile link database

Most link databases sell themselves on the quality and/or quantity of their data. This is great for enterprise SEOs who are dealing with links going into the hundreds of thousands. However, a relatively new, and really important, feature of link databases is the addition of a spam score.

Being able to quickly gain an overview of the level of toxicity your backlinks possess is invaluable for narrowing the focus of any link auditing you might have to do, saving time and energy when it comes to assembling your disavow files.

Manage citations at scale

For those SEOs with enterprise sites reflecting businesses with many (perhaps hundreds) of physical locations, managing your local presence can be a real challenge.

Google looks at the specifics and consistency of citations across the web to understand where your physical locations are. They do this using your business name, address, phone number and web URL (NAP+U) and it only takes a few mistakes (such as misspellings or inconsistences) to throw your local listings into chaos.

Luckily, citation management suites enable you to keep all the important references to your local listings consistent and accurate – even at scale.
